Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Sterling?
Sterling has been in the Audio Video business since 1980. Much has changed since then, mostly for the good. We feel that many of the principles of a good Audio Video experience remain the same and should be adhered to. It is a confusing world for somebody just looking in for a brief period. We help you make decisions based upon your lifestyle, tastes and budget. Our experience helps us integrate equipment you may all ready own and perhaps enhance its performance as never before.

How big or small a job will you do?
We are happy to undertake all scales of projects, from a simple one room stereo system, music all over the house or home theaters. We will pre-wire a home under construction or discreetly retrofit into an existing enviroment.

Why not buy an out-of-the-box system from Big Box stores/ warehouse clubs?
Home Theatre in a Box (HTIB) systems generally cut corners in order to reach a certain price point. Many do this by skimping on the loudspeakers (the last bit before your ears). The so-called sub woofer is usually mostly dealing with the inadequacies of the others. One of the things I notice with many is the un-intelligibility of the spoken word. None of the HTIB's will switch component video, the best DVD and HDTV connection. The control aspects are often more complex than they need to be.

What parts of LA County do you cover? Orange County? Others?
We are based in Marina del Rey and mostly service the West side of Los Angeles. We have clients in Orange county and Ventura and have successfully completed projects in other States.

How long does it take to get an estimate? To get the system installed?
Once we have discussed your project, we can provide an estimate within a couple of days. Scheduling installation depends upon the complexity of the project. We will be able to give a start and finish time/estimate after discussing your project

Do you also coordinate contractors for paint? Construction of speaker housings, etc...?
We have a referral for other professionals such as electricians, plasterers and cabinet makers. Of course we are happy to co-ordinate with your existing tradesmen.

What's better? Rear Projection vs. Plasma vs. Tube?
There are many aspects to be considered. From available space, ambient light, viewing angle/distance and budget. There are some wonderful technologies available to us these days. I will expand upon this soon.

Can you hide the wires and cables?
Yes, Sterling audio video are experts in retrofitting systems into existing homes.
